Exceptional School of Massage Student Clinic
What to Expect

When you call to book your first appointment at our student clinic the receptionist will ask for your contact details. He or she will mail three different forms to you for your review and signature:

Health History Form: This form must be filled out accurately and completely before your first session. It ensures that the techniques used in your session are safe for you to receive and will meet your individual needs.

Cautions for Massage List:
Please read this list carefully and check any conditions or pathologies that you currently experience or have experienced in the past. Notice that some of these pathologies require complex adaptations to the massage session, for which our student therapists are not yet trained. If you have any of these conditions, please call the director of education at Exceptional Massage School (Suzie Swedish at 222-333-4445) for more information. She will likely refer you to a professional massage therapist in the area who has the expertise necessary to work with you safely and effectively. In some cases indicated on the list, a physician’s release is required before the first session. This ensures that you have discussed massage with your physician and he believes that it will not cause complications to your condition. Ask your physician to fax or send the enclosed physician’s release form to our clinic before your fist session.

Informed Consent Form: Please read and sign this form. It ensures that you understand and agree to our student clinic policies and procedures and that you consent to receive massage sessions from us. Bring these completed forms with you to your first session. If there is not time to mail forms to you before your session, you can complete them on the premises. Be advised that we cannot provide massage in some situations or that a physician’s release may be required.

When you arrive at the student clinic your student therapist will greet you and walk with you to a private area to review your forms and conduct a health intake interview. Please answer the therapist's questions completely and honestly so that she or he can provide you with the best possible massage session. The therapist will ask questions about where you would like focused work and the depth or pressure you would prefer.

At the conclusion of the consultation, the therapist will take you to a treatment room and leave so that you can undress to your level of comfort and position yourself under a drape (a sheet and blanket). Clients are always draped and only the area receiving massage is uncovered at any time during the session. The therapist will return after five minutes, enter the room and undrape the first area to receive massage. Please let your therapist know if any techniques feel painful or uncomfortable. He or she will adjust the techniques to your level of comfort.

The session will end at its scheduled time and the therapist will leave the treatment area so that you can dress. He or she will meet you in the lobby to complete the paperwork for the session. You can book a follow on session at this time. If you have any questions, please call the student clinic receptionist at 222-333-4444.
